Injury prevention is the name of the game when it comes to running longevity. Strengthening your core, hips, and glutes is key to keeping injuries at bay and powering through your runs with ease. Here are three simple yet effective exercises you can incorporate into your routine:
1. Glute Bridges:
- Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
- Engage your glutes and lift your hips off the ground until your body forms a straight line from knees to shoulders.
- Hold for a moment, then lower back down.
- Aim for 3 sets of minimum 10 reps.
2. Side-Lying Leg Lifts:
- Lie on your side with shoulders, hips, knees, and feet stacked.
- Lift your top leg as high as you can without compromising your hip or torso alignment.
- Hold for a moment, then lower back down.
- Complete all reps on one side before switching.
- Aim for 3 sets of 10 reps per side.
3. Forearm Plank:
- Get into a plank position with elbows on the ground and body forming a straight line from head to heels.
- Engage your core and hold the position for 30 seconds.
- Focus on keeping your body stable and avoiding sagging or arching.
- Aim for 3 sets, holding for 30 seconds.
Incorporate these exercises into your routine on your non-running days or after your runs to build strength and stability. Investing in injury prevention now will pay off in the long run, allowing you to enjoy many miles of running without setbacks.
Happy days, Wethlete Athletes!
